Research Carrels for Student Use in the Cook Library

The University of Southern Mississippi's Cook Library has many tools and advantages for students to use in there everyday academic life and one of the tools is a research carrel. The research gives students and faculty members the opprtunity to have a privite space in the library to study and do school work. The resaerch carrel has plenty of shelve space to hold books as well as a filling cabniet to hold papers. It is a great tool to have as a student when those big papers come where you just need to be alone. To rent a resecrh carrel for the semseter go to the USM Cook Library website http://www.lib.usm.edu/.

Unique Community Service Project for African Political Science Class

The African Politics and Culture class is a unique class by itself. It is a 400 level political science class that teaches about the politics of Africa and what is going on there today as well as the culture of Africa. What makes this class even more unique is that a requirment for the class is to do community service hours and the communinty servive you need to do is go and teach students about African politics and culture. This is a great teaching tool because you are teaching others about what you leraned in class and you are learning from the discussion you have with the class you are teaching. I taught high school student and had a great time doing it. I learned from them and I know they learned from me too.

Pictures of Southern Miss' History

If you have been on the second floor of the R.C. Cook University Union you would see many past pictures of the University. There are pictures dateing back all the way to the 1950's and there are all past pictures of diffrent students doing diffrent activities. There are pictures of past Homecoming parades, Homecoming events, and much more. These pictures are a great thing to have for students and vistors to look at because it shows our past. It also shows how much this university has changed and how much it has not. They are really nice pictures and students should take advantage and go look at a glipse of the university's past.

Photo Collection on the 3rd & 4th Floors of the LAB

On the third and fourth floors of the Liberal Arts Building at the University of Southern Mississippi are pictures that are part of a collection taken by Betty Press.  Betty Press is an acclaimed photographer and the wife of Political Science professor Dr. Bob Press.
The pictures that are hanging on both floors are photographs of Africans doing different things.  In most of the photographs Africans are living life as everyday africans as well as photos of Africans doing different traditions.  It is a real benefit to go and take a look at the photo collection because it shows you almost first hand how africans live their everyday life.
The collection is something that everyone should go take a look at if they have time too.  It is not a well known collection because it is in the hallways of the liberal Arts Building, but it is truly a great experience.

Cultural Report

I really enjoyed the trip to McCain Library. My favorite part of the trip was seeing the old pictures and book of the university. Also i enjoyed seeing the old king's and queen's chairs that were throughout the room.
